5S is the name of a workplace organization methodology that uses a list of five Japanese words. 5S is a philosophy and a way of organizing and managing the workspace and work flow with the intent to improve efficiency by eliminating waste, improving flow and reducing process unevenness.

The 5S’s are ...

1. Phase 1-Seiri (Sorting)
2. Phase 2-Seiton (Straighten or Set in Order)
3. Phase 3-Seiso (Sweeping or Shining or Cleanliness)
4. Phase 4-Seiketsu (Standardizing)
5. Phase 5-Shitsuke (Sustaining the Discipline)

Vantage Plastics follows the 5S cleanliness and organization process. This helps keep areas clean and understandable. The cleaner the work area, the sooner problems are identified.  We feel that 5S is important because it adds common sense to the workplace. A clean and organized environment is more predictable and workplace organization is simpler and more visual.  5S increases our efficiency and safety by having the tools we need in the spot they need to be. This reduces the time required to search for tools and thus reduces any set up times.  We use the 5S system to reduce and eliminate the 7 wastes (Overproduction, Motion, Transportation, Over processing, Correction, Waiting and Inventory). This all makes Vantage Plastics a more productive and efficient company, which helps us deliver quality products to you, on time.
